Your premium is the same as going direct, because the insurer pays our commission. What changes is that someone reads the policy.

Kapi Insurance is an insurance broker in Auckland. We arrange personal insurance for the car in the driveway, the house, the contents, and the boat, bike or trailer parked behind it. Before you sign, we read the policy wording and tell you what the insurer will pay for, and where a future claim could get difficult.

## What personal insurance does a broker arrange?

Car, home, contents, boat, motorcycle and trailer cover, arranged with established insurers and checked against the policy wording before you sign. We do not arrange business or health insurance, so if you need those we will point you to someone who does.

Why use a broker?

## Why use an insurance broker instead of going direct?

A broker reads your policy wording, checks the cover against what you own, and gets paid by the insurer rather than by you. A direct insurer sells only its own policy, and a comparison site sorts those policies by price. Neither has much reason to tell you what the wording leaves out. Your house is probably the largest asset you own, and the outcome that matters is what the insurer pays after a bad night. We look for exclusions like meth contamination in a landlord policy, or an agreed value nobody has revisited since the second-hand market moved.

### Exclusions, read line by line

We read every exclusion, condition and limit before you sign, then explain the ones that could bite at claim time.

### The gaps nobody chose

We check your sum insured, excess and NHCover entitlement. A gap is rarely a decision anyone made. It just never got revisited.

### How we get paid

The insurer pays Kapi a commission when the policy is arranged, which is how brokers in New Zealand have always been paid. If a fee ever applies to a piece of work, you hear about it before we start.

How insurance brokers, direct insurers and comparison sites compare

| Feature | Direct Insurer | Comparison Site | Kapi Insurance |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Reads the wording with you | No | No | Yes |
| Checks gaps across insurers | No | No | Yes |
| Review at every renewal | No | No | Yes |
| Advice independent of the insurer | Own policies only | No | Yes |
| What you pay | Direct price | Direct price | Same as direct |

## How does buying insurance through a broker work?

Three steps. The paperwork is ours.

1. **Tell us what you own**
Six checkboxes, your contact details, and a line about what needs covering. A couple of minutes, with no account to create.
2. **Reading comes before recommending**
We compare what insurers offer for your situation, then explain what each policy leaves out. The cheapest quote is rarely the one that pays best.
3. **You accept, we arrange**
The insurer issues the policy, and you deal with them directly if something goes wrong. We arrange the paperwork and pick the cover back up at renewal.

- **Coverage area**: Nationwide; Cover across New Zealand
- **Location**: Local; Auckland based broker
- **Cover types**: Six; Kinds of personal insurance
- **Policy review**: Annual; Review at renewal

Behind every front door on a street like this sits a policy schedule. Most have not been read since the day they were issued.

## Who we arrange cover for

A first home, a rental, a family that keeps outgrowing the car. People call at renewal, or the week after a storm has them reading their schedule. We check that the numbers still match what you own.

### First home buyers

Settlement day comes with a list from the bank. Somewhere on it is a sum insured figure you have to justify, with NHCover (formerly EQCover) sitting behind the house cover. Plenty of first home buyers have not seen either before. We go through both.

### Families

Insurers sell house, car and contents as one package, and the package price hides which part went up. At renewal we check each policy on its own, then line the dates up so nothing lapses between them.

### Renters

The building is your landlord's problem. The laptop, the bike, the couch are yours. Contents cover handles those, and most policies include personal liability, which is the part that matters if you put a frying pan through a bench.

### Young drivers

A first car is often worth less than a year of insuring it. Skipping cover is the wrong answer. Reading the excess properly is the right one, because a big excess on a cheap car means most small prangs come out of your own pocket.

## Guides for the questions we get asked most

These started as phone calls. Someone asks what a broker does for the money, or why the renewal went up again. It is easier to write it down once than explain it every week.

## Get a second pair of eyes on your policy

Get a free quote, or tell us what you already have if you are mid-policy. We read the wording, check that it still fits, and say so plainly if it is fine. Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and the rest of New Zealand.

No obligation, and we will tell you if we cannot help.
